Celui ci vient d\u2019une noyade \u00e0 laquelle j\u2019ai assist\u00e9e et qui est devenue le trauma originel de mon personnage principal. Je voulais cr\u00e9er un \u00eatre en recherche de son \u00e9quilibre et qui vit entre deux mondes. <span lang=\"EN-US\">Deux langues. Deux pays. Deux amours. Dans le roman c\u2019est entre l\u2019argentario et Paris. Cela a bascul\u00e9 entre Londres et Rome er ses alentours.\u00a0J\u2019aimais le contraste entre ces deux villes \u00e9ternelles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Club Italie-France : La conf\u00e9rence de presse du film \u00ab\u00a0Promesses\u00a0\u00bb a \u00e9t\u00e9 l&rsquo;une des plus attendues du Festival du Film de Rome. Qu&rsquo;avez-vous le plus aim\u00e9 dans cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement ? Que appr\u00e9ciez-vous du cin\u00e9ma et de la litt\u00e9rature italienne ?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Amanda Sthers :<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0C\u2019est surprenant alors que je dirige des \u00e9quipes de 300 personnes mais je suis plut\u00f4t timide! C\u2019est toujours une \u00e9preuve pour moi de montrer mon travail. Mais je me suis sentie tr\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019aise. J\u2019ai trouv\u00e9 les journalistes italiens intelligents et cultiv\u00e9s. Chaque interview \u00e9tait diff\u00e9rente et j\u2019ai senti \u00e0 quel point ils aimaient le film. La standing ovation qui a suivi la projection du soir a \u00e9t\u00e9 un grand moment. <\/span>J\u2019ai grandi avec un amour du cin\u00e9ma neo r\u00e9aliste italien. J\u2019ai le sentiment qu\u2019on se dirige vers une renaissance dans ce pays qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 les chefs d\u2019\u0153uvre fondateurs du 7 eme art. Comme dans la litt\u00e9rature italienne, j\u2019appr\u00e9cie que les \u0153uvres soient difficiles \u00e0 classer, qu\u2019elles oscillent entre rires et larmes. Mazzantini, Veronesi, Alajmo sont des \u00e9crivains contemporains qui me fascinent.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><div><p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Club Italie-France : Vous avez quitt\u00e9 Paris pour les US suite aux attentats. C\u2019\u00e9tait le besoin d\u2019un nouveau challenge professionnel ou une envie de changer d\u2019air et s\u2019\u00e9loigner d\u2019une France victime de ses fractures sociales ? Que doit envier l&rsquo;Europe aux \u00c9tats-Unis et viceversa ?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Amanda Sthers :<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0J\u2019ai quitt\u00e9 Paris \u00e0 ce moment l\u00e0 en effet pour des raisons personnelles. Devoir recommencer ma carri\u00e8re \u00e0 z\u00e9ro a \u00e9t\u00e9 une chose tr\u00e8s particuli\u00e8re et une le\u00e7on d\u2019humilit\u00e9. J\u2019ai appris \u00e0 aimer mieux mon pays de loin mais aussi \u00e0 voir \u00e0 quel point c\u2019\u00e9tait un g\u00e2chis. <\/span>La France a tout pour irradier sauf la mentalit\u00e9 qui convient. Je ne sais pas o\u00f9 le mal et implant\u00e9 et comment il faudrait agir pour changer cette agressivit\u00e9, ce rejet de la r\u00e9ussite, cette c\u00e9l\u00e9bration de la m\u00e9diocrit\u00e9, cette jalousie profonde. <span lang=\"EN-US\">Quand je rentre je pense que \u00e7a m\u2019a manqu\u00e9 et apr\u00e8s deux jours je me souviens de raisons qui m\u2019ont fait partir. Quand je rentre en France depuis quelques ann\u00e9es, je vis a Marseille et je dois dire que c\u2019est diff\u00e9rent de Paris, je m\u2019y sens plus \u00e0 la maison.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Quand je travaille avec des \u00e9quipes europ\u00e9ennes, je vois la diff\u00e9rence de bagage culturel. Nous europ\u00e9ens trimballons avec nous des fant\u00f4mes et une m\u00e9moire de la beaut\u00e9, de l\u2019architecture dans laquelle nous sommes n\u00e9s, une passion du d\u00e9bat, une c\u00e9l\u00e9bration de l\u2019intelligence bien diff\u00e9rente de celles des \u00c9tats Unis. Les am\u00e9ricains sont eux capables de penser sans attaches, d\u2019innover, n\u2019ont pas peur de rater, de recommencer\u2026 nous avons tous nos qualit\u00e9s!\u00a0<br \/><br \/><strong>Club Italie-France : Vous avez habit\u00e9 longtemps \u00e0 Paris, avant de la quitter pour Los Angeles. Paris n\u2019est jumel\u00e9e qu\u2019avec une seule ville, Rome. Paris et Rome sont les seules \u00e0 s\u2019offrir un jumelage exclusif. D\u2019o\u00f9 la fameuse devise \u00ab\u00a0Seule Paris est digne de Rome, seule Rome est digne de Paris\u00a0\u00bb\u2026 A votre avis, ces deux villes, en quoi se ressemblent-elles ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Amanda Sthers :<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0J\u2019ai tourn\u00e9 pendant le second confinement donc ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas Rome telle qu\u2019on l\u2019aime mais en temps normal j\u2019y sens comme \u00e0 Paris, cet amour de la communaut\u00e9, des caf\u00e9s en terrasse, des rencontres, du partage. Par les temps qui courent, \u00e7a me semble \u00eatre tr\u00e8s important. Dans les deux villes il y aussi la beaut\u00e9 \u00e0 chaque coin de rue, d\u00e8s qu\u2019on tourne la t\u00eate, qu\u2019on pousse une porte. Comme deux amies diff\u00e9rentes avec des qualit\u00e9s semblables, la blonde et la brune \u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Club Italie-France : Serait-il int\u00e9ressant \u00e0 votre avis de cr\u00e9er davantage de synergie dans les domaines de la litt\u00e9rature et du cin\u00e9ma franco-italiens ? Quelles pourraient \u00eatre les actions \u00e0 mener pour assurer un rayonnement r\u00e9ciproque en Italie et en France dans ces deux domaines ?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Amanda Sthers :\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">C\u2019est un peu au del\u00e0 de mes comp\u00e9tences mais je trouve toujours interessant de rapprocher les cultures et les artistes. <\/span>La villa M\u00e9dicis sert d\u00e9j\u00e0 en partie \u00e0 ce rayonnement. <span lang=\"EN-US\">J\u2019imagine qu\u2019il faudrait cr\u00e9er des ponts simplifi\u00e9s pour les Coproductions entre les deux pays comme c\u2019est le cas pour mon film \u00ab les Promesses \u00bb.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong>Club Italie-France : Quels conseils donneriez-vous aux jeunes qui veulent suivre votre voie ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/div><div><p><strong>Amanda Sthers :<\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>C\u2019est un m\u00e9tier difficile. Il n\u2019y a jamais de certitude, pas de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Il faut une mentalit\u00e9 d\u2019entrepreneur mais on est sa propre entreprise. Il faut \u00eatre pr\u00eat \u00e0 se battre beaucoup, \u00e0 travailler plus que de raison, ayez des choses \u00e0 dire et restez sinc\u00e8res.
